Recently I have finished a book by Mikel Santiago called “Wyspa zaginionych głosów”. He is a Spanish author, and all his books are written in Spanish, but I read a translated version of it. I am pretty sure none of his books were translated to English, and only the one I read is available in Polish.
Maybe it is
caused by the translation or the writer's style, but I did not really enjoy the language of this book. It was too simple and too colloquial. I think that it completely
ruined the whole experience of reading, so that is a huge minus. The plot was
nice, it was supposed to be a thriller,
but I would describe it more as an adventure novel. It tells a story of a soldier
traveling by plane with some kind of military/politically connected, secret
load. The plane falls into the ocean and the secret box reaches a small island.
People there want to open it, and everybody on the island starts acting weird,
almost possessed. The other day, two locals find the soldier, who survived the
plane crash. I can not write any more of the plot, because I would spoil the
rest of a story, but it is lowkey addictive.
Overall I
do not recommend it, because of the language. I would give it a 4 out of 10.
